Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa has ordered to stop using the word ‘superior judiciary’ for the Supreme Court, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
The unorthodox Chief Justice of Pakistan showed his indignation when a lawyer uttered the words superior judiciary for the Supreme Court when he was presenting his arguments in a case.
The visibly irked Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa asked the judicial clerk to jot down his order during the break in the case hearing.
In his order, the Chief Justice said that the Supreme Court should be written simply the Supreme Court according to the Constitution of Pakistan. The word superior judiciary has not been used for the Supreme Court in the Constitution, the order read.
Previously, during a case hearing on Nov 21, Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa observed that the practice of adding the word “sahib” to one’s job title should be discontinued as it “unnecessarily elevates the status of public servants”.
Like an iconoclast, the Chief Justice on the very first day of his assumption of the CJP office refused to receive the guard of honour and the VIP protocol, unlike his predecessors. He came to the court in his 1800cc ordinary car. He directed his staff to treat people coming to the court as guests.
