Ishaq Dar, tipped to steer the country out of present economic quagmire, was sworn in as federal finance minister at an impressive but simple ceremony at Aiwan-i-Sadr on Wednesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
President Arif Alvi administered the oath of office to Ishaq Dar.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and members of his cabinet attended the oath-taking ceremony, besides parliamentarians and senior government officials.
Ishaq Dar calls on President Alvi
Immediately after being sworn in as the federal finance minister, Ishaq Dar called on President Dr Arif Alvi at the President House.
The meeting continued for 20 minutes during which both, the president and the finance minister, expressed concern over the economic situation of the country.
To deal with economic challenges, Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar informed the president of his plan. Discussions were also held on the loss to economy due to floods.
Earlier, before the oath-taking of Ishaq Dar, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called on President Dr Arif Alvi.
During the meeting, matters relating to the security and economic situation of the country came under discussion. The issue of audio leaks was also discussed.
The prime minister informed the president about his meetings with various heads of state during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session.
