Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar has said the American Congress can play an important role in helping vulnerable countries deal with the climate crisis, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.

Additional support from the US and the international community would be required to help Pakistan build a better, greener, and more resilient, she added while talking to US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar in Washington D.C. on Wednesday.

The Minister apprised the Member of Congress of the widespread devastation caused by climatic floods in Pakistan. She also thanked the timely assistance provided by the US government to flood victims of Pakistan.

The state minister said that despite being one of the lowest emitters of greenhouse gases, Pakistan was facing the major brunt of climate change.

Hina Rabbani Khar said the world must equitably share the burden of the climate crisis as it is a global challenge requiring a global response and collective action.

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar expressed sympathy for the loss of life and destruction caused by unprecedented floods in Pakistan. She assured her support for the provision of more assistance to Pakistan to cope with the devastating floods.

Both sides also discussed the need for sustained engagement in diverse areas including agriculture and climate change.
