The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has also urged the Supreme Court to allow it to withdraw its review petition against the Faizabad sit-in judgement, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The Pemra submitted a miscellaneous application on Wednesday in the apex court requesting the court to let the Authority take back its review plea.
The Supreme Court is due to hear the review petitions on December 28 but the Pemra has state that it did not want to pursue it.
It may be mentioned that on Tuesday the Intelligence Bureau had urged the apex court to also allow it to withdraw its review petition against the Faizabad sit-in judgement.
On the other hand, Sheikh Rashid’s counsel had filed an application in the Supreme Court seeking adjournment of hearing of his petition against the Faizabad sit-in judgement. He petitioned that Sh Rashid was in custody and he was unable to make any contact with him.
The lawyer further stated that since Sh Rashid’s advocate had now become provincial law minister, he could not be presented before the court in the case.
The Supreme Court has fixed September 28 for the hearing of a set of review petitions against its verdict on the 2017 sit-in by the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) at Faizabad in Islamabad.
A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and comprising Justice Aminud Din Khan and Justice Athar Minallah will take up review petitions on Thursday (tomorrow).
The pleas were moved by the Ministry of Defence, Intelligence Bureau, PTI, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and Pemra.
The judgement, authored by Justice Isa, had ordered the defence ministry and services chiefs to punish personnel under their command who were found to have violated their oath.
