LHC scolds DIGs in case related to citizens' recovery from police

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has expressed displeasure at the poor performance of two DIGs in a case related to the recovery of citizens from the Mustafa Town police, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Friday.


Justice Ali Zia Bajwa of the Lahore High Court took up the plea related to the illegal detention of 11 citizens in the Mustafa Town Police Station.


CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamiana, DIG (Investigation) Zeeshan Asghar, DIG (Operations) Faisal Kamran, DIG, (Organized Crime Unit) Imran Kishor, DIG ( IT) Ahsan Younas and other police officers appeared in the court


Justice Ali Zia Bajwa, while talking to the CCPO, expressed displeasure at the performance of DIG (Investigation) Zeeshan Asghar and DIG (Operations) Faisal Kamran.


He said: “Both DIGs have appeared twice in this case but to no avail. Unfortunately, you are called. Well, you look into the matter and tell the police officers to speak the truth in court.


“Your DIGs are the heads of the operations and investigation wing.  Both officers are not willing to tell you the truth.”


Justice Ali Zia Bajwa also expressed dismay over the silence of the DIG (Operations) in the court appearances. Addressing the DIG, he said: “You come to every appearance and stand silent.  Have you been forbidden by anyone?”   


In his reply to the court, the CCPO that the matter came to his knowledge and that action was taken against those who were responsible, including the SHO.


Justice Ali Zia Bajwa remarked that the SHO has kept the citizens in illegal detention for five days and


He added: “The DIGs appeared, but did not apprise the court of the actual situation.”


The judge asked the CCPO to direct the DIGs to tell the truth.


The CCPO replied that officers and officials were told to speak the truth in the courts. “There will be no such mistake in the future.  The SHO and other officials responsible in this case are on remand.”


DIG (Organized Crime Unit) Imran submitted the inquiry report to the court.


The court told the DIG (IT) about the flaws in the digital records of the police.


As DIG (IT) shifted his responsibilities, the judge said: “If you defend every mistake, no work will be done.”


The judge praised SP (Operations) Sadar Dr Gayoor Ahmad during the hearing.
