The Punjab Government has imposed Section 144 in Rawalpindi district for two days and has approved the deployment of Rangers in the wake of PTI’s protest call in Liaquat Bagh on Saturday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to an official notification, on the recommendation of the district administration, 6 companies of Rangers will be deployed in Rawalpindi and Attock amid terror threats and the presence of armed elements in Rawalpindi.
Section 144 was implemented for the establishment of law and order, and the protection of human lives and property.
All kinds of political gatherings, sit-ins, meetings, demonstrations, protests and other relevant activities are banned for two days. A complete ban has been imposed on possession and display of weapons in Rawalpindi Division however, representatives of law enforcement agencies shall be exempt from the ban.
Section 144 will apply on Saturday 28 September and Sunday 29 September. Section 144 will be enforced in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal districts of Rawalpindi Division. A letter has been issued to the federal government for the appointment of Rangers while the Punjab Home Department has issued a notification for the implementation of Section 144.
Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi district administration has set its plan to contain the PTI protest in motion. The district admin has placed containers around Murree Road. A police contingent was also deployed while containers were taken to Fowara Chowk, Mureer Chowk and Liaqat Bagh Committee Chowk.
Metrobus Service will be suspended in the district. Reports said cellular service will also remain suspended.
