Taking notice of suspension of electricity supply and cellular services in Karachi, Federal Telecommunication Minister Aminul Haq has asked high-ups concerned to make emergency arrangements immediately to provide the people with relief.
Disastrous downpour damaged communication systems in the Sindh capital, leaving the locals in the lurch.
Reportedly, parts of the city have been without electricity, cellular and internet services for more than 24 hours.
The cellular service providers blamed the mess on electricity suppliers who feared deaths due to electrocution might occur if supply is resumed.
Aminul Haq contacted the heads of PTA and cellular service providers and directed them to go for emergency arrangements to provide the people with some relief.
He also issued directives to take steps to avert such a situation in future so that consumers’ rights could be protected.
Continuous blackout in the commercial hub city is unacceptable, he said and questioned why people remain at receiving end.
He said the K-electric must have to be made upgraded to cope with challenges. The federal government’s help can be sought if they can’t deliver, the federal minister said.
