Situation in parts of the Occupied Kashmir Valley, particularly Srinagar, remained tense as Indian authorities imposed strict restrictions to prevent Shia mourners from carrying out Muharram processions.
Over a dozen protests and processions took place in Srinagar but they violent as the Indian police launched a crackdown on them.
Indian police in Srinagar said they detained over 200 Shia mourners as part of preventive arrests, adding that they will be released after they sign a “personal bond” promising to refrain from participating in any form of procession.
Over the last week, seven individuals have been booked under the controversial Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) for their alleged involvement in raising anti-India and “pro-azaadi” slogans at a Muharram procession in Srinagar.
The week also marked several violent clashes between police and Shia mourners in various parts of Occupied Kashmir, including Budgam and Srinagar districts.
