PML-N senior leader Ishaq Dar on Tuesday questioned whether anyone would be held accountable for the havoc played with the PIA by the Imran Khan Niazi government.
Dar – who managed the economic affairs under Nawaz Sharif during his last stint as finance minister – noted that the PIA had been destroyed in the process, causing a loss of billions.
He was commenting on the news about the European Union extending the current ban on the national flag carrier’s flights for another three months after suspending the PIA flight operation for the EU countries six months ago.
In this connection, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) informed PIA last week that the ban on flights to Europe would only be lifted after a safety audit of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
In an earlier tweet, the PML-N leader shared some economic data of the first five months of the current financial year which he described as “worrisome”.
He noted a 7.1 percent decline in exports and 80 percent in foreign direct investment at a time when trade deficit soared by 6.9 percent, current expenditure by 13.5 percent and fiscal deficit by 33.5 percent.
