Although Pakistani dramas are generally watched all over the world and are quite well liked by the fans for their gripping storyline, but these dramas have a tendency to be extremely regressive and absurd sometimes.

Nowadays channels have been more concerned about TRPs of the dramas and production houses seems more active portraying characters submissive, absurd, the girls next door, females’ plight and girls acting like damsels in distress. The originality and classic story lines have been lost. The subject of the dramas are rather toxic heroes and submissive females in order to increase to TRPs. Repetition of the same formula to increase views is the key factor that is turning Pakistani dramas into a boring Hindi soap opera. Polygamy, misogyny, extra marital affairs, and infidelity are the favorite topics of our writers.

This time, a drama called ‘Mere Damaad’ that is being in aired at Hum TV has broken all the records for being problematic in several ways and for all the wrong reasons. The storyline of the drama has baffled the audience. The drama starts with a big name like Shagufta Ejaz, who is shown a great independent professional. It revolves around her and her daughters and their husbands. Her will to treat them like sons create a divide between her and her daughters.

In one of the scenes of the drama, Shagufta Ejaz is holding and massaging the foot of her ‘damad’ for the sake of her daughter. This is so absurd that there is no turning back, especially coming from a woman who works as a lawyer. It reinforces the idea that in order to keep their daughters happy, parents of daughters should simply give their son in laws dowry after dowry while still holding their feet and asking for forgiveness.

Have a look at the problematic scene:

People are not okay with a distasteful and disrespectful portrayal of a mother asking her son-in—law for forgiveness. They have called out production tam and cast for doing such a toxic and problematic drama that has caused uproar with viewers expressing their disgust towards the scene.
