President Dr Arif Alvi convened the National Assembly session on February 29 (today) with the ‘hope that the issue of reserved seats will be resolved by the 21st day of the election’, 24NewsHD TV channel reported.

In a press release issued by the President's House late on Wednesday night, it was said that the President expressed reservations about the tone and allegations made by Anwarul Haq Kakar in the summary

“The tone of the caretaker prime minister is deplorable,” the president said.

He added: “The President is the head of state and the symbol of the unity of the republic under Article 41 of the Constitution

“The President is not usually addressed as such in summaries. It is a sad matter that the Chief Executive of the country addressed the President in the first instance, the Caretaker Prime Minister made unacceptable language and baseless allegations in the summary.

“The President always maintained the principles of objectivity and impartiality as per his oath and duties.”

Dr Arif Alvi said “The President cannot ignore the irregularities in the election process and the process of establishing the government.

“The President has to consider the national interest for the betterment and harmony of the nation.

“The summary of the meeting of the National Assembly of the Prime Minister on behalf of the President was returned in accordance with Article 48-1 of the Constitution.

"My objective was to complete the National Assembly under Article 51 of the Constitution, but my action was taken as a biased action. According to the resolution, the people cannot be deprived of participation in the executive decisions of their country."

There is no need to remember that the caretaker prime minister's responsibility is only to provide a conducive environment for conducting peaceful, fair and transparent elections in accordance with the constitution and within time.

“The President is fully aware that the Constitution should be implemented according to its letter and spirit, although this is not being done in the current electoral process.

“Articles 51 and 91 of the Constitution should be followed by all and should be implemented according to their spirit.

“For some days, the Election Commission of Pakistan has been practising under Article 51 of the Constitution.

‘The exercise under Article 51 of the Constitution should have been completed within 21 days.

“So far, the Election Commission has not been able to take any decision on this issue.

“The meeting of the National Assembly is convened on February 29 in view of the time given in the mandate, article 51-2, the above considerations and the hope of resolving the issue of reserved seats by the 21st day.”
