FIA arrests man for 'blackmailing' a girl

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday arrested a man from Rawalpindi for ‘blackmailing’ a girl by threatening her with sharing her objectionable videos on the internet, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to Agency’s Cyber Crime Cell, suspect Shiraz Ayaz Khan, resident of Dhok Hasu, Rawalpindi, during his relationship with the girl that lasted for several years made her objectionable videos and extorted Rs50, 000 from her by threatening her with sharing her videos on the internet if she refused to pay him the money.

Cyber Crime Cell officials further disclosed that the man had also forced the girl to stay with him without marriage.

The FIA has registered a case against the suspect under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016.

A court in Karachi, on January 20, 2021, had rejected the bail application of a man who was arrested in connection with a cybercrime.

Rejecting the bail plea of the suspect, Judicial Magistrate Syed Imran Ali Zaidi sent him to jail on physical remand.

The FIA Cyber Crime Cell had arrested the man for posting obscene pictures of a woman, who rejected his proposal for marriage, on social media.

In March 2020, the Cybercrimes Circle of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested five suspects in raids in different areas in Karachi.

The accused used to make women’s videos and then blackmail them. Police seized cell phones of the suspects and retrieved videos from them. Those arrested were identified as Zeeshan, Rizwan, Zain, Abdul and his brother Umair.

According to a report based on FIA’s data and published last year, 90 percent of cybercrime victims in Pakistan were women/minor girls and seventy percent of the cases involved pornographic content.

Earlier, on January 8, 2021, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Karachi, in order to ensure swift disposal of such cases, had divided the Cyber Crime Circle into three cells.
