Pakistan Information Commission (PIC) became helpless as the privatization ministry said it could not share the details of the agreement inked with Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) and it could not be publicly shared, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
Pakistan Information Commission is responsible for ensuring smooth flow of transparent information by the government departments but in the KESC agreement case, the commission became toothless and issued a verdict accepting the Privatization Ministry’s plea for not sharing the pact details.
The PIC issued the verdict on the case of Senior Advocate Tariq Masood against the amendment of approved clauses of privatization of KESC.
Which he pleaded damaged the national kitty. PIC ordered the details of public rights to access information on KESC website in one month. The commission also sent the verdict to the PM Secretary, Privatization Secretary
The Privatization Ministry said a clause was added to keep the agreement secret and if the agreement is made public, there is a fear that the private party will go to the International Arbitration Court and possible agreement violation could cause heavy fines on Pakistan.
