A suicide bomber exploded himself near the sit-in of BNP leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal in Mastung on Saturday. However, the BNP chief and other leaders remained safe, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The suicide bomber struck near Luk Pass in Mastung, said the police.
There was no information yet about how many people were taking part in the sit-in at the time of the blast.
The police, however, said that there was no damage of any kind as a result of the suicide explosion.
Later talking to newsmen, Akhtar Mengal said BNP supporters did not let the suspicious person near the sit-in, who then exploded himself. “Fearing arrest, the suicide bomber blown himself up about 400 meters away from their protest venue,” he added.
The BNP leader said four party activists were injured in the blast. “We do not feel threatened by any group,” he maintained.
He also disclosed that last night there was an attempt to run over sit-in with an armoured personnel carrier. Shells were also fired at the participants, he said, accusing the government of deliberately trying to create law and order situation.
No permission for Quetta rally
The authorities have declined permission to the BNP for holding a public rally in Quetta, rather warned the party of action if they tried to stage the rally.
Citing worsening law and order situation and Section 144 imposition, Quetta Deputy Commissioner rejected the BNP’s application for holding rally in the provincial capital.
