The police on Saturday put the operation against the dacoits on hold in Shikarpur Sindh, reported 24News HD TV channel.
The operation had started on May 27 after the dacoits killed three policemen and wounded others in Shikarpur.
The police halted the operation for a brief period of time until the arrival of a new batch of arms and armoured vehicles. The police called all the contingents back to the Garhi Teghu Camp, Shikarpur from all Kacha areas.
SSP Tanveer Tanyu said that the operation will restart after two days. He said they were working on a new plan of action and the operation would restart with the new strategy.
The provincial government had decided to launch the grand operation to crack down on criminal elements in the Kacha area in view of the deteriorating law and order situation in Sindh.
Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed had visited Karachi on the order of Prime Minister Imran Khan to give him a detailed report regarding the law and order situation in Sindh. The interior minister held a meeting with Sindh CM.
The minister assured the CM that the Ministry of Interior would provide all the support Sindh needed in its operation against bandits. He told the CM told the chief minister that he could seek Rangers’ assistance for the operation at any time, according to a press release by the Sindh government.
The anti-bandit operation in Shikarpur continued for three days and the police have burnt down 200 safe havens of dacoits. Reportedly, the law enforcement authorities carried out an operation against dacoits in Garhi Teghu and the Katcha area of Khanpur. As many as 200 shelter places belonging to bandits were burnt down.
The police have set up their check posts in the troubled areas. The authorities have placed the entire area under curfew. Residents, who have been advised to stay indoors, chanted slogans in favour of Pakistan and Sindh police.
Commandoes who were called from Karachi have also been participating in the operation. Armoured Personnel Carriers were also dispatched to the area. Police have taken all riverine areas under control. Dacoits who used to occupy this land illegally and harvest their crops, the police have almost cleared this land.
