The associations of poultry wholesalers and retailers have announced a strike tomorrow for an indefinite period in the twin cities of Rawalpindi-Islamabad, and Abbottabad.
According to 24NewsHD TV channel, they demand an increase in markup and withdrawal of uniform rates decision.
Poultry Dealers’ Association president Zaheer Abbas Abbasi alleged the district administration in Rawalpindi has unnecessarily been interfering in the business.
He said that until the acceptance of their demands, they will continue halt to the supply of poultry.
he added that due to the lack of local farming in Rawalpindi, the poultry prices can’t be the same in the twin cities, he said, adding that the rate can be maintained if the cost of feed and fuel are brought down.
The association president said uniform pricing for inter-district chicken can’t be maintained as it costs the dealers dears.
He threatened to park their vehicles used to transport the commodity outside the commissioner and DC offices as a protest.
“We don't want consumers to buy at inflated rates. We are not closing the limits. Our demands are justified. But the authorities are not bothering. So we decide to go on strike for an indefinite period,” he added.
The poultry items cannot be sold at the rates in Narowal, Sargodha and Jhelum, he stressed.
