The government’s ban on 24NewsHD TV channel, which entered 62nd day on Thursday, is the longest ban on any channel in the history of Pakistan.
The protests by journalist organisations, civil society and bar associations against the suspension of 24News TV channel are spreading throughout Pakistan. They were demanding the immediate restoration of the TV channel’s transmission.
On Thursday, the journalists held protest demonstrations in Sukkur, Arifwala, Ghotki, Nawabshah, Sakran, Qambar, Kandhkot and other areas.
In Larkana, lawyers from the local bar association staged a protest against the suspension of the 24News TV channel, demanding immediate withdrawal of the ban on the TV channel.
PPP Sindh Information Secretary Ajiz Dhamra said the TV channel was banned because it has become the voice of truth and represented people’s true feelings.
On this occasion, journalists said suspending TV channel’s licence is a failure of the government. They argued banning a channel that became the voice of the public is illegal. They said they will continue their protest till the licence and the transmission of the 24News TV channel are not restored.
