There appears to be no respite in sight from smog for the people of Lahore as it again emerged as the world’s most-polluted city on Tuesday as the air quality index (AQI) in the city was recorded at 385, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The air quality was worst at Syed Maratab Ali Road of the city where it stood at 515 followed by the US consulate where it was recorded at 375.

The AQI at Thokar Niaz Beg stood at 370; at Askari at 337 and 308 at Phase-8, DHA.

On the other hand, doctors have advised residents of the provincial capital to exercise caution in view of an extremely polluted atmosphere.

They have asked people to keep doors and windows of their homes shut and avoid going outside unnecessarily.

Dry weather predicted for most parts of country

To make matters worse, the Met Office forecast dry weather for most parts of the country, including Lahore.

While Lahore and other plains of Punjab were engulfed in smog, the weather in the country’s northern areas, especially in Mansehra and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) was chilly as the AJK capital Muzaffarabad and its suburbs received intermittent rainfall.

Rain was also reported from Neelum and Jhelum valleys, causing the temperatures to dip further.
