Prime Minister Imran Khan will take a vote of confidence from the National Assembly after the defeat of PTI’s candidate Hafeez Sheikh at the hands of Yousaf Raza Gillani in the Senate elections.

The announcement was made by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi during a press conference along with other federal ministers.

He said it was a bad day for the democracy the way the opposition resorted to buying the votes that led to Gillani’s election.

He regretted that the Election Commission of Pakistan could not take action to ensure a transparent election.

He said despite the video evidence, the ECP failed to take action against the PDM candidate.

Qureshi said the election of the PTI candidate on the women seat is evident that the opposition was involved in buying the votes as the opposition only bought votes for Gillani.

Qureshi said they would continue to fight against the corrupt practices of such political parties and would also hold accountable those who sold their votes.

He rejected the notion that disgruntled PTI members voted against Hafeez Sheikh and said if they wanted to show their disagreement why they would have given the vote to the PTI’s woman candidate.

The foreign minister said they will politically fight the PDM and the time has come that people should hold responsible those who have sold their votes.

Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood said the PM would take the vote of confidence from the National Assembly as per the constitution and everyone would be allowed to vote as per his conscience without any binding.

Shafqat said it would show who have the conscience and who have sold their votes.

On a question, Asad Umar said there in only one buyer in the market and that is the opposition alliance and their target remains PTI MPs.

He said since they did not believe in buying the votes that is the reason no such video of opposition parties’ MPs has surfaced.

Asad Umar said PTI has won all the seats as per its representation in the assemblies and lost the only seat where the money was involved.
