Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri and Justice Babar Sattar were sworn in as the additional judges at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday morning, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In this connection, a ceremony was held at the IHC building where Chief Justice Athar Minallah took oath from the two who have appointed for a period of one year.
Earlier, the eight-member Parliamentary Committee on Judges’ Appointment had approved the appointment of Sattar and Jahangiri after the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) recommended their names.
During voting, only Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Mohammad Khan had opposed the nomination of Sattar and did not cast his vote in the latter’s favour.
Other committee members were Farooq H Naek and Raja Pervaiz Ashraf of PPP, Javed Abbasi and Rana Sanaullah of PML-N, Azam Swati and Mohammad Asim Nazeer of PTI, and Sarfraz Bugti of BAP.
Later on Monday, President Arif Alvi had approved the appointment of renowned lawyers Jahangiri and Sattar as the IHC additional judges for which the law and justice ministry issued a notification.
