Two die, 5 fainted in gas leakage blast at cooking oil factory in Karachi

Two employees were killed and five others fell unconscious when a gas leakage blast rocked a cooking oil factory in Karachi on Thursday morning, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The explosion occurred when ammonia gas accumulated in the factory located near Port Qasim and the workers were wrapping up their night shift.

The rescue personnel shifted the bodies and the fainted people to Jinnah Hospital where condition of two was stated to be serious.

The deceased were identified as 40-year-old Nazim Pathan and Kamran.

Two of the five fainted people were named as Tanveer and Khalid.

Jinnah Hospital Emergency Incharge Dr Irfan said five injured were treated here and then they were referred to Burns Centre of Civil Hospital.

Cooking oil tanker overturned

A tanker carrying cooking oil from Karachi to Punjab was overturned at Matyari. The driver lost control of the vehicle which veered off the National Highway and then overturned.

The cooking oil started leaking from the tanker after the police rushed to the spot to control the situation.
