The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has nominated PPP MPA Ali Haider Gilani as its candidate for the slot of Punjab Assembly deputy speaker, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Ali Haider Gilani, who is the son of PPP leader and former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, submitted his nomination papers for the slot of PA deputy speaker in the assembly secretariat on Saturday.
The candidates could submit their nomination papers till 5pm today.
Wasiq Qayyum is a joint candidate of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) for the seat.
The Punjab Assembly will meet tomorrow (Sunday) for the election of new deputy speaker.
Dost Muhammad Mazari was removed from the office of PA deputy speaker as 186 members of the provincial assembly voted in favour of no-trust motion tabled against him on Friday.
PTI’s Raja Basharat moved the motion against Mazari after the latter’s controversial ruling in Punjab CM election case that the Supreme Court later annulled.
Earlier in the day, PTI’s Sibtain Khan won the seat of Punjab Assembly speaker in a contest against Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Malik Saiful Malook Khokhar.
