18 die, bridges destroyed as heavy rains wreak havoc across country

Continuous heavy monsoon rains wreaked havoc across the country causing flashfloods, destroying bridges, bringing down roofs and claiming 18 lives on Tuesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel


With the government directing the concerned departments to help the affected people, the worst of the monsoon was yet to come as the Met Office forecast heavy spells in next few days.


The worst affected were the tribal districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where rains have caused many deaths and extensive damage to the infrastructure.


11 die after rainwater floods basement in Darra Adamkhel


Body of a little girl who was missing and the rescue personnel were searching for her, later located her body.


A spokesman of the Kohat Rescue Service told reporters that the after heavy downpour the basement of house was flooded with rainwater.


The spokesman said 11 members of the family including women and children got trapped in the flooded basement where they were sleeping. All the 11 died after drowning in the rainwater.


KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed deep sorrow and grief over the tragic deaths of 11 persons in a house in Darra Adam Khel, caused by floodwater entering their basement.


The governor expressed heartfelt sorrows and sympathy to the bereaved families, offering prayers for the elevation of the deceased’s ranks and patience for the relatives.


Kundi emphasized the need for improved safety measures in light of the increased monsoon rains expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the entire country. He urged that proactive and effective safety measures could help mitigate potential losses caused by the monsoon rains, thus preventing both human and material damage.


Meanwhile, heavy rains have brought an end to long drought in Khyber District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.


Khyber Bara, Jamrud, Landi Kotal and Tirah Valley received heavy rains bringing down the mercury.



Two bridges swept away in Mansehra and Swat 


The main bridge was collapsed and swept away by the floodwater in Mahandri Nala on the Kaghan Highway in Mansehra.


Many shops were also flooded and a large number of tourists were trapped in Kaghan Valley.


Meanwhile, a portion of the temporary link bridge between Kalam and Bahrain was also swept away by the flood after heavy rain in Swat.


Kalam-Bahrain road closed for all kind of traffic after the bridge collapsed. Heavy machinery of Swat, Upper Swat Development Authority engaged in removing debris.


Two women die in Faisalabad roof collapse


Two women passed away when the roof of their house caved in on Tuesday in Faisalabad amid heavy rains.


Rescue personnel also rescued three other people from under the rubble of the house.


Woman, girls die in Bajaur, Jhelum


A woman and two girls died when roofs of their houses collapsed in Bajaur and Jhelum amid heavy rains.


A woman and her 10-year-old daughter breathed their last when roof of their house collapsed in Mamond Wara area of Bajaur. Another two children were injured in the incident.


A girl died while her mother and two-day-old brother were injured when their house roof caved in in Jhelum.


Flood claims life of woman, her son


Monsoon destruction continues in Mansehra  as a woman with her son swept away in flood in Mahandri Manor drain while a car parked on the side of the drain was also swept away.


On the other hand, the water from the storm drain at Ghanul also entered the camp built for the construction of a dam.


However, locals and foreigners in the camp were shifted to a safe place.


President of Hotel Association Seth Matiullah said that all the tourists trapped in Naran are safe and the administration has allowed the tourists to leave via Chalas-Karakoram Highway.


He said free accommodation will be provided for stranded tourists till their return while food and drink items will be available at 50 percent discount to Mansehra tourists.


Rain lashes Karachi


Monsoon downpour lashed Karachi on Tuesday afternoon and there were reports that most areas of the megacity received the rain


Saddar, Clifton, Shah Faisal, Defence and other areas received the rain. The rain caused instant loadshedding in many areas of Karachi.



Landsliding in Abbottabad


Two injured people were rescued after a Suzuki car was trapped under the debris of landslide near Kathwal area on Thandiani Road in Abbottabad on Tuesday.


According to Rescue 1122, personnel two ambulances including a rescue vehicle were rushed to the site and rescued an injured man and a child.


After a long strenuous effort, the rescuers were able to take out the two wounded alive.


After giving first-aid to them, the Rescue 1122 personnel shifted the two to DHQ Hospital in Abbottabad.


Van stuck in Mansehra landslide


Heavy rains in Mansehra and its surroundings continued on the second day on Tuesday as well causing landslides and flooding in storm drains.


Due to landslides on Kaghan highway and flooding in storm drains a pickup van got stuck in the flood water. However, the passengers in pickup were safely evacuated.


Roof of cattle-shed collapses in Swabi


Meanwhile, due to rains in Swabi, roof of a cattle-shed collapsed and two bulls buried under the debris.


According to report, the rains in Swabi continued on third-day as well due to which water entered into low-lying areas. The rescue officials reached the sport started operation for draining out water with water pumps.
