The victory notifications of three more members of the National Assembly, including PML-N’s Hamza Shehbaz and Khawaja Asif, were challenged on Saturday, thus bringing the total number of lawmakers (both MNAs and MPAs) facing challenges to their win in the general elections held on February 8, 2024 to 41, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Ali Ijaz, who had contested the election as a PTI-backed independent candidate from NA-117, Lahore, challenged the victory notification of his rival Abdul Aleem Khan of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP).
Similarly, Aliya Hamza Malik, who was a PTI-backed independent candidate from NA-118, challenged the win of the rival candidate Hamza Shehbaz of the PML-N.
On Friday, 24News reported that 13 more petitions challenging the election results, including from the constituency of Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar, had landed in the Election Appellate Tribunal.
The tribunal, comprising Justice Sultan Tanveer Ahmed of the Lahore High Court (LHC) will hear the petitions.
On Friday, Malik Tauqeer Abbas Khokhar from NA-126, Lahore had challenged the success of Malik Saiful Malook Khokhar and requested the tribunal to cancel his victory notification.
In the tribunal, the victory notification of MNA Chaudhry Muhammad Shahbaz Babar from NA-98 Faisalabad and MNA Ali Zahid from NA-72 Sialkot have also been challenged.
A defeated candidate of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) from PP-172 Lahore Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan also challenged the success of elected MPA Misbah Wajid. Former Punjab minsiter Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan appealed the tribunal to cancel the notification of Misbah Wajid's success.
The victory notification of MPA Azim-ud-Deen Zahid Lakhvi from PP-133 Kasur has also been challenged in the LHC's election tribunal. LHC's officer Irfan Ahmad Niazi received the applications against the elected MNAs and MPAs.
Yesterday, defeated candidates challenged the victory notifications of the 13 elected members of the National Assembly and Provincial Assembly of Punjab in the Lahore High Court (LHC).
Among these MNAs and MPAs, most of the members belong to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N).
Malik Zaheer Abbas Khokhar of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) approached the Election Tribunal against the success of the PML-N leader Federal Minister Ataullah Tarar from National Assembly's Lahore constituency NA-127.
From NA-55 Rawalpindi, MNA Abrar Ahmed's success was challenged by Mohammad Basharat Raja of the PTI while Burjees Tahir filed an election complaint against the success of independent MNA Muhammad Arshad Sahi from NA-111 Nankana Sahib.
PTI's Ajmal Sabir Raja from NA-53 Rawalpindi filed an election petition against the victory of PML-N MNA Qamarul Islam Raja while Lala Asadullah of PTI challenged the victory of PML-N's Shahid Usman from NA-80 Gujranwala IV.
On the provincial seats, the victory of MPA Naeem Ejaz of PML-N from PP-10 Rawalpindi was challenged by Chaudhry Muhammad Amir Afzal while Raja Rashid Hafeez filed an election complaint against the MPA Abdul Hanif of PML-N from PP-17 Rawalpindi XI.
Gulzar Ahmed challenged the victory of an independent candidate Zameerul Hasan Bhatti from Hafizabad PP 38 while Liaquat Abbas from PP-39 Hafizabad filed an election complaint against the election commission's notification of PML-N MPA Mohammad Aun Jahangir's success.
Muhammad Khalid challenged the victory of PML-N MNA Qaiser Ahmad Sheikh from NA-94 Chiniot while Shaukat Ali challenged the success of MPA Muhammad Ilyas of PML-N from PP 95 Chiniot.
From PP-145 Lahore, Muhammad Yasir challenged the success of MPA Samiullah Khan Durrani of PML-N while former MPA of the PML-N Sheikh Alauddin challenged the success of Mian Hambal Sana Karimi, an independent member of the assembly from PP-181 Kasur.
