Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) wrote a letter to Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood on Saturday regarding the issue of inappropriate remarks made by blogger and former female journalist Cynthia de Richie against late Benazir Bhutto.
PPP leader Senator Sehar Kamran in a letter to the Foreign Secretary called for an investigation into the activities of Cynthia de Richie.
“Social media accounts are hurting the feelings of millions of Benazir Bhutto supporters in the country and abroad. Her provocative words are becoming more insulting, aggressive and dangerous,” letter content said, reported 24NewHD TV channel.
“The American woman has twice made false accusations against the former prime minister and the first woman prime minister of the Muslim world and the state is facing humiliation over the plight of women and their relentless rhetoric on human rights. The demand for answers to these questions should also be sought in the investigation,” text of the letter said.
“Why and in what capacity the American woman Cynthia de Richie is residing in Pakistan? What is the nature and duration of Cynthia de Richie's visa? Who is sponsoring the letter in Pakistan?”
“Her aim is to target only Sindh at a time when the province was receiving praise and support from the people against Covid-19. What is the policy of the government regarding the continued presence of these suspicious elements in Pakistan?”
As per letter, the PPP demanded an immediate notice of the activities of Cynthia de Richie and to declare her an undesirable person and start the process of deportation immediately.
It is pertinent to note that PPP Islamabad President Advocate Shakeel Abbasi filed a complaint with the Federal Investigation Agency's (FIA) cybercrime wing against blogger for hateful comments and slander against their leader Benazir Bhutto.
The blogger in her latest tweet said that in light of recent events, and the threats he was receiving from PPP and PTM accounts, he was considering doing an interview regarding my experiences with PPP over the past 10+ years. She asked who would be the best person to do an interview with.
