Tetanus injections disappear from Karachi markets

Tetanus injections have become rare at most medical stores of Karachi while the injection also disappeared from the wholesale medicine market, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.


According to report, hoarders started making profit by black marketing and the price of injections increased from Rs60 to Rs300 and Rs500 in black.


Moreover, pregnancy and heart disease injections have also being sold in black.


Medicines for respiratory diseases, colds, epilepsy and inflammation are still scarce.


Medicines for respiratory diseases increased from Rs500 to Rs4000 while cold medicines sold at Rs650 to Rs1100.


Swelling medicines also increased from Rs700 to Rs3000.


Pregnancy injections increased from Rs6000 thousand to Rs9000 while heart disease injections available at Rs1200 to Rs2500.


The price of insulin also doubled as it crossed Rs900 to Rs 2700 in the black market


On the other hand medical store owners blamed wholesalers for the increase in drug prices.


According to medical store owners, middlemen or wholesalers create artificial crises by shorting drugs.


They said there has been a shortage of tetanus injections for two and a half months.


The situation of non-availability of insulin has also come up.


We have been assured by the drug inspectors that the supply of medicines and injections is improving.
