Fawad demands ECP to hold by-elections on EVM

Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry Tuesday urged the Election Commission of Pakistani (ECP) to hold by-polls on the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) as per the law.

According to the 24News HD TV channel, he was giving a briefing to the media after the cabinet meeting and said the law only recognized the elections under the EVM.

He said if the elections would not hold on the EVM, the government would not be able to fund it, so the ECP must hold by-elections under the existing law of the EVM.

Fawad told the media that the cabinet had expressed its serious concerns over the issue of videos about buying votes in the by-elections in Lahore NA-133 from the Nawaz League. He said such kinds of illegal actions were against democracy.

The federal minister urged the ECP to take action against such illegal activity in the by-elections.

He said the cabinet had discussed the issue of Justice (Retired) Rana Shamim and his affidavit that was saved in a locker in London as per the statement of the judge.

Fawad said that Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired the cabinet meeting in Islamabad and Federal Minister Asad Omar briefed the Cabinet on the new type of corona—Omicron.

In the meeting, Federal Minister Shibli Faraz briefed on procurement of the EVMs, training of staff, responsibilities of concerned agencies, and public awareness campaign.

The cabinet directed the concerned departments to explain regarding the audit report on the package for the Corona outbreak.

The Finance Adviser Shaukat Tarin presented a review of the prices of essential commodities and declared that apart from ghee and tea in the region, prices of all other household items are lower in Pakistan.

Cabinet expressed concern over rising prices of essential commodities in Sindh.
