In response to heavy snowfall and challenging weather conditions in Gilgit, the border between Pakistan and China at Khunjarab Pass has been officially closed for the next five months.
This closure, in accordance with the Border Protocol Agreement, began on the last day of November and is anticipated to last until April 1, 2024.
As the border gates shut, more than 40 containers successfully crossed into Pakistan through Khunjarab Pass, marking the conclusion of border activities for the season.
Former member of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, Javed Hussain, and Chief Executive Officer of AJ International Cargo, Khurram Zafar, extended a warm welcome to the containers arriving in Pakistan on this occasion.
President of the Hunza Chamber, Daulat Karim, was also present to witness the border closure.
This annual closure, dictated by the Border Protocol Agreement, is a precautionary measure undertaken at the end of November each year, considering the adverse winter conditions in the region.
