A petition was filed in the Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday, seeking constitution of an independent judicial commission to ensure transparent deportation of Afghans to their country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Making the federal government and the interior ministry respondents, the petitioner, members of the civil society, stated that the federal government failed to satisfy under which law it had ordered the deportation of Afghans.

The petition read that Pakistan had been hosting five million Afghan refugees for the past 40 years.

It was further stated that Afghans came to Pakistan during the three wars that followed the US-sponsored war with the Soviet Union.

“The government gave foreigners living in the country illegally a deadline to leave. And each family was given Rs50,000 before it left. But the government failed to distinguish between those who were law-abiding and those who were involved in anti-state activities,” read the petition.

It was argued that the government’s decision to send Afghan immigrants back to their homes was a violation of basic human rights.
