Health experts at a conference have evolved a consensus that family medicine is the backbone of the healthcare system and it should be promoted as the most effective tool not only for proper referral but for the better prognosis of diseases, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
They were expressing their views at the conclusion of the 32nd international conference of family medicine organized by the Pakistan Association of Family Physicians here from October 27-30.
A good number of participants including heads of institutions, professors, family physicians, medical students, and representatives of allied health sciences participated in the conference from all over Pakistan and around the globe.
Dr Asif Channer, a disaster and emergency management professional, speaking on the occasion emphasized that family medicine is the backbone of the healthcare system in any country but unfortunately in Pakistan, this speciality is badly ignored for the last several decades.
Dr Asif said that this speciality should be patronized by both the federal and provincial governments for the betterment of the masses.
He said that family medicine must be encouraged for early diagnosis.
Prompt treatment will help in reducing the burden of diseases and bring positive socioeconomic change in society.
During the conference, both the physical and online lectures, presentations, practical sessions were conducted as a continuous medical education program to enhance learning skills and professional development.
