As the body of renowned religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil’s son Maulana Asim Jameel, who had committed suicide last night, has been shifted to his native town Mian Channu for burial, his brother Maulana Yousaf Jameel has denied his family has enmity with anyone, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
In a video statement, Maulana Yousaf Jameel has said that his brother was a patient of acute depression since childhood, and that for the last six months he was being given electric shocks due to the severity of his illness. “Today as he was alone at home, he took a gun from the security guard and shot him dead,” Maulana Yousaf elaborated.
Maulana Yousaf ruled out enmity with anyone, saying such rumours are baseless.
In a tweet posted in wee hours of Monday on X, Maulana Tariq Jamil announced that Namaz-i-Janaza of his late son Asim Jameel will be offered today (Monday-October 30) at their native village of Raeesabad in Talamba at 7:30pm
Last night reports were doing rounds on media that Maulana Asim had died because of a bullet he received in his chest.
Meanwhile, Asim Jameel’s body was shifted to the family’s native town of Raeesabad where police have taken strict security measures.
Police said Asim Jameel was working out in a gym when the shot was fired while doctors concluded that Asim received a bullet in his chest.
The police investigators carefully examined footage of the CCTVs in which Asim Jameel “could be seen shooting himself”.
Police officers, however, said that they are continuing further investigation into the incident.
DSP Mian Chanun Saleem Marth said that Maulana Asim was rushed to Talamba Rural Health Centre in a critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.
IGP Punjab Usman Anwar took notice of the incident and sought a report from RPO Multan.
The IGP said that in the light of the evidence and forensic reports, the cause of death should be determined.
On the other hand, Maulana Tariq Jamil declared his son's death “an accident” in his tweet on Sunday night.
Later in a startling development in the investigation into Maulana Asim's tragic death, police have scrutinized CCTV footage from the crime scene, leading to a perplexing revelation.
According to RPO Multan, Asim was captured on CCTV shooting himself. The footage indicates that the incident occurred while Asim Jameel was exercising in a gym at the time, he added.
