In the 64th annual general meeting of the All Pakistan Textile Association (APTMA) Asif Inam was elected as the chairman unopposed.
The general meeting of APTMA also elected Rehman Naseem as Senior Vice Chairman, Naveed Ahmed and Asad Shafiq as the vice chairmen unopposed.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, newly elected APTMA Chairman Asif Inam said that textile exports have reached 12 billion to 20 billion dollars.
He said the textile sector has invested $5 billion which could support the industry to increase exports from 20 to 25 billion dollars.
He also said that the group leader Gohar Ijaz has set a target of setting up 1000 garment factories and hopefully they will achieve the target.
The newly elected chairman of APTMA Southern Region Zahid Mazhar said that the textile sector has a 60 percent share in exports.
While APTMA Vice Chairman Central Zone Naveed Ahmed said they textile exports can double in the next five years if the government takes steps to reduce production costs.
