PM Imran briefed about construction of Sialkot Engineering University

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday was briefed about the steps taken so far for the construction of Sialkot Engineering University, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

He was chairing a meeting held in Islamabad to review progress made in the higher education sector.

Federal ministers Fawad Chaudhry, Asad Umer and Shafqat Mehmood, Special Assistant to PM Shehbaz Gill, Prime Minister’s Taskforce on Science and Technology Chairman Dr Ataur Rehman and other senior officials attended the meeting.

The meeting was told that the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) had already given a green signal to the construction of the engineering university, which is a joint project of the federal and Punjab governments, and would be completed at the cost of Rs16.69 billion.

It was informed that half of the expenditures to be incurred on the project would be borne by the provincial government, which would also provide half of the total area of land required for the purpose.

It was further informed that since ‘Seerut Nabi (PBUH)’ is going to be introduced as a subject for the students of the class eighth, ninth and matriculation, therefore a new curriculum for these classes will be introduced soon.

Speaking on the occasion, PM Imran said that since higher education played an important role in polishing the youth's potential, therefore, the government was focusing on the promotion of this sector.
