The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday threw out the petition, seeking a ban on fireworks show scheduled to be held in Islamabad today, on the New Year’s night, saying it was inadmissible for the hearing, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Chief Justice (CJ) Justice Athar Minallah remarked, “Let the people celebrate the occasion. It is happening even in Saudi Arabia now.”

Giving his arguments, the lawyer for the petitioner said that a large number of people gathered to witness a 30-minute long fireworks show, which was organised at Islamabad’s popular shopping mall every year on December 31, which eventually disrupted the flow of traffic. “The youth, on the occasion, resort to one-wheeling and also indulge in strange kinds of things,” he said, and added, “There is a greater need to exercise caution given that traffic is plying on the GT Road nearby, and that the fireworks may distract the attention of the drivers.”
