Appeals will be filed in the election tribunals from tomorrow (Monday) against the decisions of the returning officers to reject the nomination papers of the candidates for the general elections 2024 scheduled to be held on February 7, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
The process of submission,acceptance or rejection of nomination papers for the general elections across thecountry has been completed while the process of appeals on the decisions of the returning officers will continue from tomorrow till January3, 2024.
These appeals will be decided by the election tribunals by January 10, while candidates will be able to withdraw their papers by January 12.
Candidates will be given election symbols on January13.
The lists of candidates were released after the returning officers completed the process of scrutiny of nomination papers in districts across the country.
The nomination papers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and several PTI leaders have been rejected.
Similarly, the nomination papers of former interior minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, former Punjab ministers Dr Yasmin Rashid, Akhtar Mengal, Fawad Chaudhry and his wife Hiba Fawad, Azam Swati, Zulfiqar Mirza, Fehmida Mirza and their son were also rejected.
On the other hand, the nomination papers of PML-N President and former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Nawaz Sharif, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sadiq Sanjrani, among others, were accepted.
ECP issues notification of tribunals hearing appeals in Sindh
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued notification of tribunals for hearing appeals against the decisions of returning officers.
The ECP had approached the high courts for hearing of appeals against the decisions of the returning officers.
The Sindh High Court had nominated six judges for the hearing of the appeals.
ECP issued notification to set up tribunals after Sindh High Court's nomination.
Justice Arshad Hussain, Justice Khadim Hussain Tonio and Justice Adnan Karim will hear the appeals of Karachi and Hyderabad.
