Different sections of the motorway were closed for traffic again on Sunday morning as dense fog engulfed plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Sindh, reducing visibility in some areas to almost nil, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
While on roads and highways, traffic moved at a snail’s pace.
According to the spokesman for the Motorway Police (MP) Syed Imran Ahmad, sections of the motorway which were closed were as under:
M 3 from Faizpur to Darkhana, M 4 from Sher Shah to Pindi Bhattian, M 5, from Sher Shah to Rohri and from Sukkur and Rahim Yar Khan to Zahir Pir, M 2, M 1 from Peshawar to Burhan and Lahore to Sialkot.
The spokesman said that motorways had to be closed in order to ensure the safety of commuters.
He further said that with drop in temperatures, the duration of fog in the country’s plains was prolonged.
He advised people to first avoid travelling unnecessarily, and if it was inevitable, prefer travelling during the daytime. “Travelling between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM is most feasible,” he added.
The spokesman asked drivers to turn the fog lights of their vehicles on, drive at a slow pace and also keep distance from other vehicles.
He said that in case of an emergency or for seeking information, motorists could contact on helpline no 130.
The Met Office, on the other hand, forecast dry weather for most parts of the country.
