The tear gas shells which are in stock with the Punjab Police have started to expire while the department has purchased new shells worth Rs130 million, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel on Sunday.
According to police sources, Punjab Police bought 42,500 new tear gas shells of different types.
The most expensive stun grenade (multi-bang) was bought for Rs18,000 per grenade while smoke grenade white was bought for Rs16,530 per grenade.
Moreover, stun grenade single bang was bought for Rs13,500 per grenade.
Sources further said that long range tear gas shell was bought for Rs2,410 per shell.
Not less than 117,309 tear gas shells and expired shells were found in the stock of Lahore Police while PC Battalion No. 3 has more than 2,800 expired shells in stock, sources added.
Sources revealed that there will be a loss worth more than Rs181 million to the exchequer due to the expired tear gas shells.
