India has released poisonous water into the Satluj River killing fish and other riverine mammals in large numbers in Arifwala, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
A TV correspondent from Arifwala reported that toxic water killed large numbers of fish, livestock and aquatic mammals in the Satluj River.

On the other hand, the locals have started to supply the dead fish in the market fuelling fears of spread of diseases. The outbreak of skin diseases is being feared in the area due to the supply of dead fish in the market.
Meanwhile, the officials have informed high-ups about the losses being caused by the untreated water.
The local administration and the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) have not yet been mobilized to stop the supply and sale of dead fish.
River Satluj is the longest of the five rivers that flow through the historic crossroads region of Punjab from India to Pakistan and it is the easternmost tributary of the Indus River.
India has been releasing untreated and floodwaters into Pakistani rivers frequently.
On July 29, 2019, dozens of villages, including Qazi Paharang, Makhanpur, Daulatpur, Sikandarpur, Dharewal, Kotli Khawaja, Kaluwali Syedan, Roopo Wali, Wahga, Kaluwali Khurd, Rasoolpur and Bhikki were submerged after India had released floodwater in Nullah Dek. Standing crops on hundreds of acres were also destroyed.
