The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has barred the caretaker federal government from introducing basic reforms in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
In this connection, secretary ECP has written a letter to the government in which he has said that it has come to the election commission’s notice through a media report that the government plans to introduce reforms in the department through an ordinance.
There is no doubt, the secretary goes on to write, that it is the duty of the government to introduce reforms in any organization so that its performance, as well as that of the government, could improve. “However, the role of a caretaker government is restricted under section 230 of the Election Act,” reads the letter.
