Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA) claim about Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport runaway that modern Airbus-380 plane can now land on it and park it seemed contradictory with the ground reality, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
A day earlier, the CAA claimed that now the modern Airbus-380 plane could land after upgradation of the runaway.
Sources said that the Category-4 certificate was issued in haste and it would be difficult to take the Airbus plane from the runway to the taxiway of the airport. Also, there are no GCFC measures for such arrangements.
CAA DG Khaqan Murtaza said that Phase-I of the central runway of the airport has been completed and a Category-4 certificate was issued in this regard.
“Modern Boeing 900-777 can land at the runaway and in Phase-II the taxiway of the runaway will be prepared where Airbus-380 will land. For that work on the double bridge, the installation will be started.”
He acknowledges that the landing option for the Airbus-380 is available but the parking option is not available right now.
