As Pakistan prepares for a crucial must-win encounter against New Zealand, left-handed opener Imam-ul-Haq has emerged as a potential replacement for the sidelined Usman.
Opening batter Usman Khan has been ruled out of the second ODI of the three-match series against New Zealand due to a hamstring injury.
The match is scheduled to take place at Seddon Park, Hamilton, on April 2.
Imam was actively involved in training at Seddon Park, participating in batting drills and practice sessions, indicating a possible inclusion in the playing XI.
Additionally, Pakistan’s team management is contemplating another change, with pacer Mohammad Ali potentially making way for spinner Sufyan Moqim.
Moqim, who impressed in the final T20I against New Zealand by taking two wickets in his two-over spell, could be a valuable asset on a pitch that may assist spinners.
Despite Pakistan’s 4-1 loss in the T20I series, Moqim’s performance was a standout positive.
The first ODI saw New Zealand post a formidable 344-run total, propelled by a brilliant century from Mark Chapman (132) and a blistering 24-ball fifty from debutant Muhammad Abbas.
Pakistan responded well, reaching 249-3 by the 39th over, but suffered a dramatic collapse, eventually being bowled out for 271 in just 44.1 overs.
