Federal Minister for Energy Awais Leghari and Minister of State for Finance, Revenue, and Power Ali Pervaiz Malik stated that supplying electricity to areas with high theft will significantly increase the power circular debt.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the ministers addressed a joint press conference on Thursday and announced that currently, there is no electricity shortfall in the country.
They said the net metering policy will continue and action will be taken in high-theft areas.
They emphasized that there would be no compromise on governance in power companies. They said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has committed to reducing theft.
Minister Leghari noted that 1,978 feeders in LESCO have losses of 10 per cent and these feeders also faced load shedding while the feeders with zero losses also experienced load shedding due to the incompetence of DISCOs.
He said CEOs of DISCOs have been warned that action will be taken if service levels are not improved.
The energy minister announced that data that was previously presented under the Roshan Pakistan program will now be restarted and daily details of electricity distribution, demand, and load shedding will be provided by each DISCO.
Leghari said new boards for power companies will be introduced next week. He added that yesterday on May 29, the demand was 25,820 MW while production was 21,588 MW and 4,232 MW of load shedding occurred.
Power Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik added that the Prime Minister has directed efforts to provide relief to the public. He said a high-level committee has been established to investigate corruption in coal procurement which included the ministers of power, petroleum, and defense.
