Car ploughs through Haram courtyard in Makkah, crashes into Door 89

Video footage captured the dramatic moment a car was driven at high speed across the southern square courtyard of the Grand Mosque in Makkah, before finally smashing into one of the doors on Friday night.

Saudi security authorities then arrested a man who was pulled from the car, state news agency SPA reported.

Reports suggest the car was driven at high speed on a road surrounding the southern square the Grand Mosque, also known Masjid Haramain, SPA added, quoting the official spokesman of Makkah region, Sultan Al-Dossari.

A Hyundai car, beige coloured, collided at Door 89 of Masjid Al Haram at 10:25 pm and the driver was arrested inside the expansion of King Fahad.

Makkah Government in statement issued said: “The security authorities responded to an accident that involved a car hitting one of the doors of the Grand Mosque as a result of drifting while travelling at high speed on one of the roads surrounding the southern square of the Grand Mosque and by the grace of Allah no one was injured. 

It became clear that the person after his arrest is a citizen and in an abnormal condition, and he is being referred to the Public Prosecution.

Security officials removed the car involved in the incident and arrested the driver. Masjid al Haram is operating as per protocol with no closure.
