Reiterating that general elections in the country would be held on time, Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja on Monday assured the caretaker government of Punjab the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) complete support for holding free and fair elections in the province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Talking to Punjab Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi at the CM House in Lahore, he said that the ECP was ready for elections. “Demarcations of all constituencies will be complete by November 30,” he said, adding, “I am completely satisfied with the arrangements by the provincial government in this regard.”
Speaking on the occasion, CM Naqvi said that the Punjab government would provide all possible assistance to the election commission for the purpose. “Foolproof security arrangements will be made to ensure that people could cast their votes peacefully,” he added.
Later, both chaired an important meeting at which arrangements made for the elections were discussed in detail.
The meeting was briefed on the occasion on the steps taken to ensure security during the polls.
It was decided at the meeting that the Punjab government would appoint a focal person to coordinate with the election commission.
ECP members from four provinces namely Member Sindh Nisar Ahmad Durrani, Member Balochistan Shah Muhammad Jatoi, Member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Justice (r) Ikramullah Khan, Member Punjab Babar Hussain Bharwana and provincial ministers were in attendance.
