Lahore finds itself grappling with a grave environmental crisis as air pollution levels soar to a perilous high, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
The city's overall Air Quality Index (AQI) recently reached an alarming 311, ranking Lahore as the worst in the world in terms of pollution.
In recent days, Lahore has been cloaked in a persistent blanket of smog, creating a dense and toxic atmosphere that has left thousands of residents grappling with adverse health effects.
The smog, a combination of noxious pollutants, has triggered a surge in complaints about breathing difficulties, eye irritation, and severely reduced visibility on the city's roads.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department, also known as the Met Office, has issued a weather warning to address this dire situation.
The department sees no rain in the coming days in the city creating another threat to residents.
The smog is primarily composed of various toxic oxides, including nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, and other hazardous aerosols. These pollutants have accumulated in the atmosphere due to the prevailing cold-high-pressure system.
