49,500 medics safety kits provided, more in a couple of days: NDMA chief

Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired a meeting on the ongoing war on coronavirus in Islamabad on Monday.

Key ministers, top managers and special advisers attended the moot that took stock of steps to stem the spread of Covid-19.

NDMA Chairman Lt-Gen Muhammad Afzal said that the authority was in contact with hospital managements to make sure availability of safety kits for medics.

The provincial governments have already been provided 49,500 kits and more will be available in a couple of days, the meeting was told.

“Our target is to make sure the availability of required number of ventilators and the authority is working for the purpose on an emergency basis,” the NDMA chief said.

Health Adviser Dr Zafar Mirza told the meeting that a total of 3,300 ventilators were available at 136 hospitals of the country.

Special steps to get over dearth of technical staff and their training are being taken, he said.

PM Imran Khan said since the medics were the front-line force in war on the virus the pandemic virus, their safety was the top priority.

Planning Minister Asad Umer shared with the meeting the situation of development plans and economic activities.

The meeting also pondered over relief package for the poor and construction industry affairs related to the lower and marginalised folks.

The premier reiterated relief resolve saying the revival of construction industry is linked to poor.

He directed his team to spend public sector development fund on the construction industry workers.
