Glamorgan captain Sam Northeast hit the highest first-class score recorded at Lord's on Saturday, racking up an unbeaten 335 not out in the County Championship against Middlesex.

The 34-year-old batsman overtook Graham Gooch's 333, made for England in a Test against India at the London ground in 1990.

Northeast made his runs off 412 balls, hitting 36 fours and six sixes in his team's opening match of the English County Championship season.

He came to the crease on Friday with his side at 16-1 and declared on Saturday with the score at 620-3. He put on an unbroken stand of 299 runs with Colin Ingram, who scored an unbeaten 132.

Northeast spent nearly nine hours at the crease in an innings spread over two days.

He now has the two highest individual scores for Glamorgan after hitting 410 in 2022.
