Active coronavirus cases in Pakistan drop below 20,000

The substantial and continuous drop in the new coronavirus infections means that Pakistan now has only 19,770 active cases, shows the latest figures released by National Command and Operation Centre on Thursday morning.
Obviously, this trend is a result of the fact that 256,058 people have fully recovered after being infected by the virus. However, 809 patients are still in a critical condition and being treated in the intensive units of different hospitals in the country.
As far as the new cases are concerned, the coronavirus was found in another 727 people during the past 24 hours (Wednesday), raising the overall total to 281,863.
Meanwhile, the death toll climbed to 6,035 after 21 more patients died of the virus during the same period.
In Sindh, the number of cases has now reached 122,373. It is followed by 93,847 in Punjab, 34,359 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 15,141 in Islamabad, 11,793 in Balochistan, 2,234 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 2,116 in Azad Kashmir.
Similarly, Sindh, unfortunately, also tops the list of deaths as the province has reported 2,245 people dying after contracting the coronavirus. The details for other provinces and regions are: Punjab 2,162, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 1,215, Islamabad 167, Balochistan 136 and 55 each in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
On the other hand, the number of tests administered since the coronavirus pandemic outbreak in the country increased to 2,058,872 as 15,001 more people were tested during the past 24 hours.
