Close to 11,000 Pakistani passports were issued to Afghan nationals in lieu of money between 2010 and 2012, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

Sources told 24News TV channel that besides Karachi’s Saddar Passport Office, passports were also issued to Afghans from Awami Markaz, Malir and Thatta offices.

They revealed that 1,000 passports were issued from the Safdar Passport Office alone.

However, they disclosed, a majority of passports were issued from Pakistani missions in Saudi Arabia.

Sources said that the concerned department as well as the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) were investigating to identify those responsible and take action against them.

In this connection, they informed, Safdar Passport Office superintendent and a former officer at the office had been taken into custody.

Sources told 24News that NADRA’s role in the corruption scandal was also being probed.
