Alert sounded as new spell of rain, snowfall likely to hit KP

A spell of rains and snowfall is likely to begin in the upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

According to the Meteorological Department, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a letter to all district administrations to stay alert.

In view of heavy rains and winds, the administration in districts has been directed to take precautionary measures.

“The temperature is likely to drop by two to three centigrade,” the text of the letter issued to the administration in districts read.

The administration was directed to ensure the availability of small and heavy machinery and the monitoring of nullahs.

“In case of a storm, people should stay away from power lines, dilapidated buildings and structures, signboards and billboards,” the PDMA’s letter read.

It also asked the administration in districts to advise tourists and locals in sensitive highlands to be aware of weather conditions and take precautionary measures.

“The administration in sensitive districts should convey messages about weather conditions to the local population in local languages,” it added.

“In any emergency, all agencies concerned should be vigilant in maintaining road links and in case of road closure, alternative routes should be provided for traffic,” it directed.

“Passengers should be alerted in advance on provincial and national highways in sensitive areas. The authorities concerned should transfer the people to the safe waiting areas in time,” it added.

“Ensure the availability of rescue personnel during this time. Tourists should be informed about weather conditions. Rains and snowfall are likely to continue till November 10. Tourists should take special precautionary measures during travel,” it concluded.

Rain forecast for Lahore

There is a forecast of rain for Lahore. Experts say the rain will help reduce smog in the city which ranks second in the list of the most polluted cities in the world. The air quality index (AQI) in the city is 317 while the temperature hovers around 21 degrees centigrade. The temperature can vary between 17 and 29 degrees centigrade after rain.
